Preparation Tips: Getting Your Vehicle Ready for an Invidia Catback Exhaust Installation

Preparation Tips Getting Your Vehicle Ready for an Invidia Catback Exhaust Installation

You've chosen your Invicta exhaust, and now you are ready to put it on to your car. There are a few things you can do to prepare your vehicle for the new exhaust. This makes installation easier and faster.

Wash Your Car

This isn't a necessity, but it does make the job a little easier, and cleaner. Before you change your exhaust system, give your car a good wash. You can do this at the car wash, or using your own hose at home.

This prevents dirt and debris from falling on you when you are changing the exhaust and also makes it easier to see what you are working with.

Gather Your Tools

Next, you'll want to gather your tools. You'll need sockets to remove and replace bolts. You may need a torch or saw to remove part of the pipe, particularly if the screws are locked into place.

Of course, you'll need a jack and jack stand as well. An exhaust hangar remover is very helpful for removing old hangers. You can pick this tool up for less than $20, so it's worth the investment.

Be sure that you have lubricant or penetrating oil on hand. We'll get to that next.

Get the Catback System

Before you go any further, you'll want to be sure you have your catback exhaust system. Check to see if it has all the hardware and hangers that you will need. If it doesn't, you'll need to pick some up.

Raise Your Vehicle

Now you are ready to raise your vehicle. Be sure to use proper safety procedures. Never rely on a jack by itself. Use jack stands as well. The higher up your vehicle is, the easier the process of changing the cutback system will be. You'll have more room to work.

Lubricate Old Bolts

Now you'll use your penetrating oil. Before you begin removing the old exhaust system, spray everything down with oil. Allow the oil to sit for a bit before you move on to the next step.

Remove Old Exhaust

Now you are ready to remove the old exhaust. Remember, you aren't removing the entire exhaust system. You'll remove the portion that begins right after the catalytic converter.

Ideally, you can simply remove the old exhaust by removing the bolts holding it on. If they are stuck, try tightening them and then loosening them. If all else fails, you may need to cut the bolts or pipes to remove it.

Now your vehicle is ready for you to install your new Invicta exhaust. Be sure to use all new bolts and hardware.
