2008–2014 Subaru WRX Brake Parts

Choosing the Right Pad Compound

This is where most of the decision lives, because the compound determines how the car actually feels.

Street compounds: PowerStop and Hawk’s daily-oriented pads prioritize quiet operation, low dust, and consistent bite at normal temperatures. Right for commuters and anyone who wants clean wheels.

Performance street compounds trade a little noise and dust for stronger initial bite and better fade resistance. Hawk Performance is the reference point here for good reason: if your WRX sees canyon runs or spirited backroad driving alongside daily use, this is the sweet spot.

Track compounds are built for heat. They need temperature to work properly, which means they’re grabby and noisy when cold; genuinely not pleasant for daily driving, but essential if you’re doing repeat hard laps.

Be honest about how the car gets used. The best WRX brake pads are the ones that match your actual driving, not your aspirational driving.

The Parts That Finish the Job

WRX brake pads get changed most often, but the rest of the system is what delivers consistency.

Rotors: If yours are within spec and in good shape, they can often be reused. If they’re grooved, warped, or thin, replace them. Fresh pads on tired rotors waste both. DBA slotted rotors add heat management and help clear pad gases during hard use.

Brake lines: Factory rubber lines expand under pressure, which shows up as a soft, vague pedal. Goodridge braided stainless lines eliminate that flex. On a car this age, the original lines are also simply old; this is preventative maintenance as much as performance.

Fluid: The most overlooked upgrade in WRX brake pads. Old fluid absorbs moisture and boils under heat, which is when you need it most. High-temp fluid and a proper flush cost little and change how the pedal holds up.
