Performance Engine Valves

The best performance engine valves for your build are the ones matched to your cylinder head, camshafts, and power goals. For street and track builds on stock or mild cams, a quality stainless or black-nitrided valve in standard size from Brian Crower or Supertech is the reliable pick. For high-boost or high-RPM builds with aggressive cams and a ported head, oversized valves with matching springs and retainers unlock more flow. Either way, match the valve to the head — and check your year and model before ordering.

Valves are the gates of the combustion chamber: intake valves meter the charge in, exhaust valves let spent gases out. Performance valves use better materials and tighter tolerances — black-nitrided stainless resists wear and micro-welding, while GSC Power-Division's chrome-polished valves cut friction further. Oversize options add flow when the ports are opened up to match. Valves go in during a head rebuild — springs, retainers, and guides are usually refreshed at the same time, and most owners leave the valve job to a machine shop.

Popular brands here include Brian Crower, Supertech, and GSC Power-Division — three trusted valvetrain brands for Subaru, Honda, and Mitsubishi builds.

Do bigger valves add power by themselves?

Somewhat. Oversize valves flow more air, but the gains show up when paired with ported heads and cams that can use the extra flow — valves alone on a stock head won't transform the car.

Do I need new valve springs with performance valves?

With upgraded camshafts, yes. Higher lift can cause stock springs to coil-bind, so match springs and retainers to the cam card. With stock cams and standard-size valves, fresh stock-spec springs are usually fine.

What is the difference between intake and exhaust valves?

Exhaust valves live a much hotter life, so heat resistance matters more on the exhaust side — nitrided or high-temp alloys are the common choice for turbo applications, while intake valves prioritize flow and light weight.

Single valves or full sets?

Both are sold here. Full sets make sense for a complete head build; singles are handy when replacing one damaged valve. Check your year and model, and confirm standard versus oversize sizing before you buy.
