HKS Coilover

What are the best coilovers for a 2015-2021 WRX or STI? For most drivers, a proven street-and-track coilover with height and damping adjustment is the right answer, and HKS's Hipermax line has been a go-to option for years. The kits in this collection cover the 2015-2021 WRX/STI, the 2022-2026 BRZ and GR86, and the 2017-2022 Civic Type R, so there's a Hipermax setup for each of the modern sport-compact platforms HKS supports.

Coilovers replace your factory struts and springs with matched assemblies that let you dial in ride height and damping. The lineup here spans HIPERMAX S kits for the 15-21 WRX/STI (part 80300-AF009) and the 22-26 BRZ (80330-AF020P), the Hipermax R for the 22-23 BRZ (80310-AF005), the MAX IV SP for the 15-21 WRX/STI (80250-AF003), and the FK8 Civic Type R HIPERMAX S kit with pillowball upper mounts. Full kits means everything arrives matched to the chassis, ready to bolt in.

Brands in this collection

HKS is one of Japan's most established performance brands, and its Hipermax coilover line is the heart of its suspension program. The kits here carry genuine HKS part numbers and application-specific valving, so damping is tuned for the platform rather than a one-size-fits-all setting. HKS's approach has always been street-capable refinement that still holds up at higher speeds, which is why the line includes both street kits and higher-spec variants like the Hipermax R.

If you're cross-shopping Japanese suspension, TEIN runs one of the deepest coilover catalogs in the store, and Cusco builds a full chassis program around its coilovers, including sway bars and strut braces. Our suspension collection pulls together complementary parts for the same platforms.

Proper alignment after installation is what unlocks a coilover's potential. Check your year and model against each product page before ordering, since Hipermax valving and fitment differ between the WRX/STI, BRZ/GR86, and Civic Type R applications.

Frequently asked questions

Which Hipermax model should I choose?

Street-driven cars do well with the HIPERMAX S kits, which balance daily comfort with sharper response. For regular track use, check the Hipermax R and MAX IV SP product pages for their valving and intended use.

Do I need a tune or supporting mods?

No tune is required for coilovers. A fresh alignment after install is essential, and on some chassis, adjustable rear control arms help dial camber back into spec at lower ride heights.

How hard is the install?

A competent home mechanic with a torque wrench can do it in a day, but most buyers use a shop because alignment is mandatory afterward. The FK8 Type R kit's pillowball mounts need correct torque and preload setup, so a performance alignment shop is the safest bet.

Do the kits include everything?

Yes, the Hipermax kits in this collection are complete coilover sets with matched springs and hardware. Check the individual product page for application-specific notes, and check your year and model to confirm fitment.
