Short Throw Shifter

The best short throw shifter for a 2015-2026 WRX shortens the distance your hand travels between gears, giving each shift a quicker, more mechanical feel. The standouts here are the Billetworkz short throw shifter kits — CNC-machined hardware built for the WRX and Crosstrek chassis — and the Perrin Super Shifter Stop, which removes the factory slop the stock shifter leaves in the 1-2 and 2-4 gates.

A short throw shifter changes the pivot geometry of the shift lever so the same hand movement at the top produces a shorter, more direct gate engagement. The result is less wasted motion and a crisper connection between you and the gearbox. A shifter stop is the natural companion part: it physically limits the shifter's side-to-side travel so the lever lands in the same place every time instead of rattling against the factory's loose tolerances.

Look for chassis-specific kits first — the listings here name their fitments, like 15-26 WRX and 18+ Crosstrek, because shifter linkage differs between platforms. Billet aluminum keeps the assembly rigid under hard shifting. Perrin offers stop variants for different setups, so match the stop to the shifter you run.

Billetworkz is a CNC-focused brand built around shift components — knobs, shifter kits, and the hardware around them — with a heavy Subaru WRX following. Its short throw shifter kits are machined from billet aluminum with model-specific brackets, so the install bolts to factory mounting points instead of fighting universal adapters. The brand's whole identity is the tactile side of driving: precise throws and a shifter that feels engineered rather than assembled.

Perrin is an Oregon-based Subaru performance brand known for drivetrain, chassis, and engine parts with a motorsport-engineered edge. Its Super Shifter Stop is one of the most popular WRX drivetrain mods precisely because it fixes something every WRX owner feels: the vague, sloppy side-to-side play in the stock shifter. Perrin's versions are offered for both OEM short throw and standard shifter setups, so the stop matches the rest of your linkage.

Do I need a tune after installing a short throw shifter?

No. A short throw shifter is a mechanical linkage part — it changes nothing about fueling, boost, or timing, so no ECU tune is required.

Should I add a shifter stop with a short throw shifter?

Yes, they are designed to work together. The shifter kit shortens the throw while the stop removes side-to-side slop — match the stop version to your shifter (OEM short throw vs. standard) per the listing.

Is installation difficult?

It is a moderate interior and under-car job: most kits install with basic hand tools by accessing the shifter linkage from the cabin and underneath. Budget an afternoon, and check your year and model against the listing.

Do these fit automatic cars?

No. Short throw shifters are for manual-transmission cars only — these kits are built for the manual WRX and Crosstrek chassis listed on each product page.
