Shift Knobs & Accessories

The best shift knobs are weighted knobs in the 400-600 gram range — the added mass smooths out each throw and reduces the notchy feel of a stock shifter. Beyond weight, the right knob comes down to thread pitch, shape, and material: pick a finish that feels good in your hand and matches your interior.

Why a Shift Knob Is One of the Best First Mods

Your shift knob is the one part you touch on every single drive, so it's the highest-contact mod you can make. A weighted knob uses momentum to help the lever slide into gear, which makes shifts feel more deliberate and mechanical. Materials matter too — stainless steel and titanium hold temperature (hot in summer, cold in winter), while delrin and leather stay neutral and are easier to live with daily.

What to look for: correct thread pitch for your shifter (most Subaru shifters are M12x1.25; most Honda/Acura are M10x1.5 — check your year and model), solid construction with no rattling inserts, and a shape that suits your hand. Sphere, piston, and teardrop profiles each change how the shifter feels in your palm.

Shift Knob FAQ

What thread pitch does my car need?

Most Subaru manual shifters use M12x1.25 and most Honda/Acura use M10x1.5, but always confirm against your specific year and model before ordering.

Do I need a tune after installing a shift knob?

No — a shift knob is a purely mechanical part that doesn't affect the engine or ECU, so no tune is required.

Is a shift knob hard to install?

Most screw on by hand in a few minutes. Some applications need an adapter for a different thread pitch, which is usually included or sold separately.

Weighted vs. lightweight — which is better?

Weighted knobs make throws feel smoother and more positive, which most drivers prefer. Lightweight knobs give a more direct mechanical feel. It's personal preference — neither is objectively wrong.
