Extang

The best tonneau cover for a truck is one that matches your bed length, your truck’s year, and how you use the bed. Extang’s Trifecta line of tri-folding covers is a popular choice because it secures the bed, sheds weather, and folds up in seconds for full bed access. This collection covers the Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, and 2014-2021 Toyota Tundra, with options for trucks with and without rail systems.

A tonneau cover keeps cargo out of sight, protects it from rain and snow, and gives the bed a cleaner look. Tri-fold covers like the Trifecta are the most versatile style — the panels fold toward the cab so you can use part or all of the bed without removing anything. Extang’s lineup here includes the Trifecta e-Series and the Trifecta 2.0, in versions for trucks with a factory rail system and without. The Xceed adds another option for Tundra owners. Bed dimensions vary by cab, model year, and bed length (the Ranger application here is spec’d for a 1549mm bed), so always confirm your year, model, and bed length against the fitment notes before ordering.

Extang is best known for its Trifecta soft tri-folding tonneau covers, a line that has made the brand a staple of the truck-bed-cover market. This collection shows the range: the Trifecta e-Series for the 2012-2020 Ford Ranger Double Cab and Mazda BT-50 Double Cab, the Trifecta 2.0 for the 2014-2021 Toyota Tundra in rail-system and non-rail-system versions, and the Xceed for the Tundra. Extang’s specialty is covers that install quickly, seal tightly, and fold away without tools.

Retrax takes a different approach with retractable covers that roll into a canister at the front of the bed. Retrax covers suit buyers who want lockable, hard-panel security with one-handed operation.

Undercover focuses on hard tonneau covers, including one-piece and folding designs. Undercover’s painted-to-match and textured finishes appeal to owners who want the cover to look like a factory extension of the truck.

Popular picks include the Extang Trifecta e-Series for 2012-2020 Ford Ranger DC / Mazda BT-50 DC, the Extang Trifecta 2.0 with Rail System for 2014-2021 Tundra, and the Trifecta 2.0 without Rail System for 2014-2021 Tundra. Will an Extang cover fit my truck?

Tonneau covers are bed-length specific, so confirm your truck’s year, model, cab style, and bed length against the product’s fitment notes. Rail-system versions are made for trucks equipped with a factory bed rail system.

Can I drive with the cover partially open?

Yes — tri-fold covers are designed to be driven with one or two panels folded toward the cab. Always secure the folded panels with the provided straps or buckles before driving.

Does installation require drilling?

Extang tri-fold covers use a clamp-on frame that attaches to the bed rails, so installation typically requires no drilling and takes well under an hour with basic hand tools.

Is a soft tri-fold cover waterproof?

Tri-fold covers are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof — seals and drainage are designed to channel water away, but some moisture can enter in heavy rain or car washes. For maximum weather sealing, compare hard-cover options too.
