Brembo Performance Brakes

The best big brake kit for a WRX or STI is a Brembo GT, GTS, or GT-R kit with 6-piston calipers. The Brembo kits in our catalog pair 6-piston front calipers with 355x32mm 2-piece slotted rotors — a combination built for serious stopping power on track days, canyon runs, and high-horsepower street builds.

A big brake kit is more than bigger rotors: multi-piston fixed calipers spread clamping force evenly across the pad, larger rotors absorb repeated hard stops, and the 2-piece rotor design helps manage heat expansion. Brembo's GT-R kits use billet calipers while the GT and GTS lines offer the same 355mm rotor format with cast calipers — all a massive step up from sliding single-piston factory calipers.

What to look for: confirm the kit matches your year and model — the WRX and STI differ across generations — and check your wheel diameter: most big kits need 17-inch or larger wheels to clear the calipers. Pair the kit with fresh high-temp brake fluid and a proper bed-in procedure. Alongside Brembo, we carry brake upgrades from StopTech, EBC Brakes, and PowerStop — see the Big Brake Kits and Brake Pads collections to compare.

Standouts include the Brembo GT-R front big brake kit with 6-piston billet calipers (nickel) and the Brembo OE Gold rear brake kit for the 2002-2007 WRX. Our top 5 brake systems for sports cars guide is a good companion read.

Do Brembo big brake kits fit stock wheels?

Usually not without checking — most 6-piston kits need 17-inch or larger wheels with the right spoke clearance. Check your caliper clearance before ordering.

What's the difference between the GT, GTS, and GT-R lines?

In our catalog the GT-R kits use billet calipers while the GT and GTS kits use cast calipers, all paired with 355x32mm 2-piece slotted rotors. All three are full big brake kits, not pad-and-rotor refreshes.

Should I upgrade the rears at the same time?

Many drivers start with a front kit, where most braking happens, and add rears later. A matched rear kit keeps brake bias balanced for track use.

Do I need different brake fluid?

Yes — a fresh fill of high-temperature DOT 4 fluid is recommended with any big brake kit, since the system will run hotter under hard use than with factory brakes.
