AST

The best coilovers for your build depend on how you drive: AST's 5100 Street Series suits daily-driven cars that see occasional track days, the 5100 Comp steps up damping control for serious time-attack and autocross work, and the 5300 Series 3-way is full motorsport hardware for dedicated race cars. For a simpler drop, AST's adjustable lowering springs — including applications for the A90 Supra and G29 Z4 — lower the car with factory-style ease. Match the series to your use case and you get Dutch motorsport engineering at every price point.

Coilovers replace your car's spring-and-damper assemblies with height-adjustable units, letting you set ride height and, on adjustable models, dial damping to your driving style. AST builds on motorsport-proven internals: the 5100 line covers street and club-racing duty with single-adjustable damping, while the 5300 Series adds separate low-speed compression, high-speed compression, and rebound adjustment for cars where every tenth counts. This collection also carries AST lowering springs — including height-adjustable sets that keep factory electronic dampers (EDC) working on cars like the 2019+ Supra.

AST is a Dutch suspension manufacturer with deep roots in motorsport, supplying dampers to race teams across touring, GT, and time-attack disciplines. That background shows in the range: the 5300 Series 3-way coilovers here are built to the same specification philosophy as AST's race dampers, with separate adjusters for low-speed compression, high-speed compression, and rebound. The 5100 Street Series distills that knowledge into a daily-drivable package with adjustable damping, top mounts, and matched springs included.

Compare AST against the other heavyweights in our catalog: BC Racing and TEIN both offer street-to-track coilover lines, and our suspension, lowering springs, and shocks and struts collections cover supporting upgrades. Standouts here include the AST 5300 Series 3-way motorsport coilovers for the 2006–2011 Civic and the 5100 Comp setup for the S2000. Before you buy, read our best coilover guide to understand spring rates, damping, and setup.

What is the difference between the 5100 Street and 5300 Series?

The 5100 Street is a single-adjustable coilover aimed at daily drivers and weekend track cars — comfortable on the street, capable on circuit. The 5300 Series is 3-way motorsport hardware with separate low-speed compression, high-speed compression, and rebound adjustment, built for dedicated race cars where setup granularity matters. The 5100 Comp sits between them as a track-focused single-adjustable.

Should I get coilovers or just lowering springs?

Lowering springs are the budget-friendly drop: they lower ride height on factory dampers and keep things simple. Coilovers add height adjustability and matched, adjustable dampers, so they ride and handle better when set up properly. If your factory dampers are worn or you want real handling gains, coilovers are the smarter long-term buy.

Do AST lowering springs work with electronic dampers?

AST makes specific adjustable lowering spring sets for cars with electronic damping — for example, the A90 Supra and G29 Z4 kits come in EDC and non-EDC versions. Order the version that matches your car; the wrong one will trigger damper errors, so check your year and model carefully.

Do I need an alignment after installing coilovers?

Yes, always. Changing ride height alters camber, toe, and caster, and driving on bad alignment settings will chew through tires fast. Budget for a professional alignment after any coilover or spring install.
