aFe Power Intake Systems

The best aFe Power intake systems for a Subaru WRX, GR Corolla, or GR86/BRZ are the Takeda Momentum and BladeRunner lines — sealed-box cold air designs and mandrel-bent charge pipes engineered to smooth airflow to the turbo. aFe's filters come in two flavors: Pro 5R oiled media for maximum flow, and Pro DRY S oil-free media for minimal maintenance, with housings designed for consistent MAF readings.

aFe Power (advanced Flow engineering) has built intake systems in Corona, California for over two decades. The lineup splits in two: Takeda — Momentum cold air intakes, dynamic air scoops, and throttle body spacers for the GR Corolla, Civic Si, Infiniti G, and more; and BladeRunner — aluminum charge pipes and intake hardware for turbocharged cars like the 22-26 WRX.

What to look for: pick your filter media first. Pro 5R oiled filters flow more air but need cleaning and re-oiling; Pro DRY S filters need only soap and water. Cold air intakes relocate the filter to cooler air; charge pipes replace restrictive factory plumbing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do aFe intake systems require a tune?

It depends. Several aFe intakes are engineered for the factory calibration, while others are designed to be paired with engine management. Check your year and model and the product notes before you buy.

What is the difference between Pro 5R and Pro DRY S filters?

Pro 5R is oiled cotton gauze that flows more air but needs periodic cleaning and re-oiling. Pro DRY S is oil-free media that needs only a wash.

How often should I clean my aFe filter?

Inspect regularly and service when the wire mesh is no longer visible — typically around 30,000–50,000 miles for street cars, more often in dusty conditions.

Do charge pipes really make a difference?

On turbocharged cars, smooth mandrel-bent charge pipes reduce the turbulence and restriction of factory plumbing. The gains are modest on a stock car but stack well with an intercooler and tune — check your year and model for fitment.

JDMuscle stocks genuine aFe Power intake systems with real fitment data, shipped from Willow Grove, PA.
