Subaru BRZ 2022+ Drivetrain Performance Parts

What are the best drivetrain upgrades for the 2022+ Subaru BRZ? Start with the shifter: a Billetworkz short throw shifter paired with Cobb or Cusco shifter bushings removes the factory rubber-band feel, Perrin driveshaft carrier bushings tighten up the rear end, and an Action Stage 2 clutch supports forced-induction FA24D builds.

The second-generation BRZ and GR86 run the 2.4L FA24D with a six-speed manual that responds well to mechanical refinement. Most of the stock shifter's vagueness comes from soft rubber — the lever bushings, the carrier bushing that holds the driveshaft's center bearing, and the long factory throw all add compliance. Replacing those wear points with solid bushings and a shorter lever transforms shift feel without touching the gearbox itself. Clutch choice depends on power: the stock clutch is fine at stock output, but turbocharged or supercharged builds need a higher-capacity unit. Note that 2013-2021 first-gen parts do not always carry over to the 2022+ chassis, so check your year and model on every part.

Perrin is one of the best-known Subaru-specific aftermarket brands, and its driveshaft carrier bushings in this collection replace the soft factory rubber that lets the driveshaft move under load. Cobb Tuning is the name behind the Accessport, and its hard-part catalog — including the rear shifter bushings here — brings the same engineering to the parts you can feel. Billetworkz machines its shifter components from billet aluminum, and its 2022+ BRZ/GR86 short throw shifter is the centerpiece upgrade of this collection. Cusco is a Japanese chassis and drivetrain specialist whose shift lever retainer bushings have been a Subaru staple for years. Action Clutch covers the high-torque side with staged clutch kits for the FA24D.

Start with the Billetworkz 2022+ BRZ/GR86 short throw shifter, add Perrin and Cusco bushings to remove compliance, and step up to the Action Stage 2 clutch kit when power climbs. Do I need a tune after installing a short throw shifter?

No. Shifters and bushings are purely mechanical — they change feel and throw, not engine parameters. Check your year and model for correct fitment.

Will a Stage 2 clutch work on a stock BRZ?

It will, but expect a heavier pedal and more abrupt engagement. Stage 2 clutches are best matched to forced-induction builds where the stock clutch would slip.

Do 2013-2021 BRZ drivetrain parts fit the 2022+ car?

Some carry over, but many do not — the second-gen chassis changed shifter and bushing dimensions in places. Never assume; check your year and model on every listing.

Do shifter bushings really make a noticeable difference?

Yes. The factory bushings are soft rubber that deflects on every shift. Solid replacements are one of the most recommended first mods for the BRZ/GR86 platform.
