AWE Tuning

Picking the right AWE exhaust comes down to one question: how loud do you want it. Choose the Track Edition cat-back if you want the loudest, rawest note AWE offers — a track-oriented setup for drivers who want real presence. Choose the Touring Edition if you want a deep, refined tone that stays civilized on the highway, thanks to AWE's 180 Technology drone-canceling resonators. Both editions bolt up to the factory locations, come in Diamond Black or Chrome Silver 102mm quad tips, and are offered for the 2022–2026 WRX, the 2011–2021 WRX/STI sedan, and the 2023–2026 GR Corolla.

AWE's catalog here centers on cat-back and axle-back exhausts — complete systems from the catalytic converter back, or just the rear muffler section for a lighter, cheaper upgrade. Cat-backs change the full exhaust path for the biggest sound and flow improvement; axle-backs swap only the mufflers, which is why the Touring Edition axle-back is the popular budget-friendly route to AWE tone. When shopping, match the edition to your tolerance for cabin volume first, then pick tip finish — Diamond Black for a stealth look, Chrome Silver for contrast — and confirm your chassis: 2022–2026 WRX (VB), 2011–2021 WRX/STI sedan, or GR Corolla. A good comparison point is the Track Edition cat-back for the 2022–2026 WRX, which shows how the louder system differs from its Touring sibling.

The Brand: AWE Tuning

AWE Tuning is a Pennsylvania-based performance exhaust manufacturer with a long-standing reputation in the Subaru community, built on engineering-led designs rather than noise for its own sake. The company's signature is its 180 Technology — patented drone-canceling resonator chambers that reflect and cancel the frequencies responsible for highway drone, which is why the Touring Edition can sound aggressive under throttle yet settle down at cruise. The Track Edition skips the muffling hardware for maximum volume, aimed squarely at drivers who want a loud, race-inspired exhaust note. If you are cross-shopping other exhaust brands at JDMuscle, Invidia, MagnaFlow, COBB Tuning, and GReddy each offer their own take on WRX and GR Corolla exhaust tone.

FAQ

What is the difference between AWE Track Edition and Touring Edition?

Track Edition is the louder, rowdier system with no drone-canceling mufflers — built for maximum volume and a race-inspired note. Touring Edition uses AWE's 180 Technology resonators to cancel highway drone while keeping an aggressive tone under throttle, making it the better daily driver choice.

Will an AWE cat-back cause highway drone?

The Touring Edition is specifically engineered to minimize drone with its 180 Technology resonators. The Track Edition is intentionally louder and will be more noticeable at cruise — that is the tradeoff for the extra volume.

How hard is installation?

AWE cat-backs and axle-backs are designed as direct bolt-on systems using the factory mounting points and hangers — no cutting or welding required. Most installs are a driveway job with hand tools and jack stands.

Do I need a tune with an AWE cat-back?

No tune is required for a cat-back or axle-back on its own — these systems sit downstream of the emissions equipment. If you later add a downpipe or intake, plan on engine management at that point.
