Yukon Gear & Axle

The best differential parts for a Toyota Tacoma or Land Cruiser are complete, ratio-matched gear and rebuild components that fit the exact axle in the truck, and this Yukon Gear & Axle collection is built around that idea. It brings together third member assemblies, ring and pinion gear sets, spider gear kits, and master overhaul kits for Tacoma and Land Cruiser rear and front differentials. If you are re-gearing for larger tires, replacing a worn differential, or adding traction, start by confirming your axle size, ratio, and locker configuration, then check your year and model.

A differential splits power between the wheels while allowing them to turn at different speeds in corners. Gear ratio determines how that power is delivered: the 3.90 and 4.30 ratios named here change acceleration and cruising rpm compared with a taller ratio, which is why ratio choice matters after a tire-size change. A complete third member is a pre-built center section, while a gear set or spider gear kit replaces individual internal parts. Overhaul kits cover the other half of a rebuild: bearings, seals, and shims wear alongside the gears, and a master overhaul kit groups those parts for one axle application.

Yukon Gear & Axle is the single brand here, a drivetrain specialist focused on Toyota truck axles rather than universal parts. The Tacoma 8.75-inch third member with E-Locker and 3.90 ratio suits trucks with the factory electronic locker, while the Master Overhaul Kit for the Land Cruiser 9.5-inch rear differential serves the older Cruiser platform. Yukon also covers in-between jobs: a TV6C spider gear kit for 2016-2022 Tacoma without an E-Locker, and a front performance gear set in 4.30 ratio, 29 spline, for 1991-1997 Land Cruiser reverse-rotation front axles. That spread, from complete assemblies to individual kits, with ratio and spline count stated in the title, is what the brand is known for in this category.

Will a Tacoma third member fit my truck if the ratio matches?

Not necessarily. Axle size matters as much as ratio: this collection lists both 8-inch and 8.75-inch Tacoma rear assemblies, and locker configuration matters too. Match the axle size, ratio, and E-Locker status in the product title to your truck, and check your year and model before ordering.

What is the difference between a gear set and a master overhaul kit?

A gear set replaces the ring and pinion themselves, changing or restoring the ratio. A master overhaul kit supplies the bearings, seals, and hardware used to install gears and rebuild the axle housing. Many rebuilds use both together.

Is differential work a DIY install?

Gear setup requires setting bearing preload and backlash and checking the tooth contact pattern with specialized tools. Most owners have a drivetrain shop set up a new gear set or third member.

Why re-gear a Tacoma?

Fitting larger tires effectively tallies the overall gearing, which can dull acceleration and change highway cruising rpm. Moving to a ratio such as 4.30, as listed on several assemblies here, is a common way to offset that change. Confirm the correct ratio for your tire size and use with a drivetrain specialist.
