XClutch Performance Clutches

The best XClutch kit for your Subaru is the stage that matches your power and driving style. Stage 1 sprung-organic kits — like the Stage 1 kit for 15–26 WRX — are the pick for a daily-driven WRX or BRZ with bolt-ons: stock-like engagement with more torque capacity. Stage 2 ceramic kits suit modified cars that see track time, where the extra bite matters more than daily comfort.

How XClutch Stages Work and What to Look For

XClutch uses a staged system so you can buy exactly the grip you need. Stage 1 pairs a sprung organic disc with an upgraded pressure plate for smooth, streetable take-up on cars near stock or with basic bolt-ons. Stage 2 steps up to a ceramic race disc for higher torque and repeated hard launches, trading some engagement smoothness for holding power. Sprung hubs cushion shock on the street; rigid setups are reserved for competition. Many XClutch kits bundle the flywheel with the clutch — the 9in twin sprung-organic kit for 04–21 STI and the Stage 1/Stage 2 kits for 15–26 WRX all include one — which makes sense, since you replace both parts in the same job.

When you shop, match the kit to your torque output rather than your horsepower number, and to your transmission: STI kits do not fit WRX gearboxes. Pair the clutch choice with a flywheel from our Flywheels collection if the kit does not include one.

About XClutch

XClutch is known for application-specific clutch kits that cover the full street-to-motorsport range, with deep coverage of Subaru and Toyota 86-platform cars. The sampled listings tell the story: a 9in twin-disc setup for 2004–2021 STI at the performance end, Stage 1 sprung-organic kits for FR-S, BRZ, and 86 drivers who want an upgrade without a stiff pedal, and Stage 1/Stage 2 packages for 2015–2026 WRX that ship with the flywheel included. Each kit is built around a specific engine and transmission pairing rather than a universal design, which is why the fitment lists read like model-year charts instead of guesswork.

XClutch sits in a competitive segment, so it is worth comparing stages across brands before you buy. Our ACT and Competition Clutch collections carry comparable staged kits for the same cars, and the main Clutch collection puts every option side by side.

XClutch FAQ

What is the difference between Stage 1 and Stage 2?

Stage 1 uses an organic friction disc for smooth, stock-like engagement on street builds. Stage 2 uses a ceramic disc that grips harder and tolerates more heat — better for modified cars and track use, with more abrupt take-up.

Do XClutch kits come with a flywheel?

Many of them do, including the Stage 1 and Stage 2 kits sampled above. If your chosen kit does not list a flywheel, plan on adding one from our Flywheels collection or resurfacing your existing unit.

Do I need a tune after installing a clutch?

No. A clutch changes how power is transmitted, not how the engine makes it, so no tuning is required.

Will a ceramic clutch be harsh on the street?

For a daily driver, Stage 1 organic is usually the right call.
