WRX Air Oil Separator

WRX Air Oil Separator - Essential Engine Protection for 2002-2022+ Models

Protect your Subaru WRX engine with a premium WRX air oil separator system. This important upgrade prevents oil buildup in your intake system. It also keeps your engine running at peak performance. Whether you drive a 2002 Bug Eye WRX or the latest 2022+ VB model, an air oil separator WRX upgrade gives your engine essential protection.

The factory PCV system lets oil vapors flow back through your intake manifold. Over time, this creates carbon deposits on intake valves. It also reduces performance. A quality WRX air oil separator catches these oil vapors before they dirty your engine's air supply. This simple upgrade helps your engine last much longer.

How Air Oil Separator Technology Works

Modern turbo engines create high pressure in the crankcase under boost. The factory PCV valve can't handle these high pressures well. This allows oil mist to enter the intake system. An air oil separator WRX system provides a better solution for managing crankcase ventilation.

The separator creates a controlled space where oil vapors turn back into liquid oil. Clean air continues to the intake while the captured oil returns to the engine. This keeps proper crankcase ventilation without making intake air dirty. Installing a Subaru WRX air oil separator is one of the best preventive upgrades you can make.

Benefits for Different WRX Generations

First Generation WRX (2002-2007): GD Chassis Protection

The original WRX models get huge benefits from air oil separator installation. The EJ20 and EJ25 engines in 2002-2007 models create high crankcase pressure under boost. Factory PCV systems can't manage these conditions well.

Installing an air oil separator WRX system on these early models prevents common problems like intake valve carbon buildup. This upgrade helps especially on high-mileage cars where factory PCV parts may be wearing out. IAG Performance and Crawford make excellent solutions designed just for these cars.

Second Generation WRX (2008-2014): GR/GV Chassis Excellence

The 2008-2014 WRX generation brought better engine management but kept similar PCV challenges. The EJ255 engine responds very well to WRX air oil separator installation. These models have better mounting spots that make installation easier.

Perrin Performance and Moroso make complete systems for this generation. Their designs work perfectly with factory engine bay layouts. The best air oil separator WRX options for these years feature strong construction and efficient separation technology.

Current Generation WRX (2015-2022+): FA Platform Innovation

The FA20 engine in 2015-2021 models brought direct injection technology. This design makes air oil separator WRX installation even more important. Direct injection engines are very prone to intake valve carbon buildup since fuel no longer cleans the valves.

The 2022+ VB WRX air oil separator market keeps growing with new solutions. The FA24 engine's larger size creates higher crankcase pressures. Early developers like Radium Engineering and Verus Engineering lead the way for this newest platform.

Installation and Maintenance

Installing a WRX air oil separator typically needs basic mechanical skills and common tools. Most systems mount in easy-to-reach engine bay locations. Quality manufacturers provide detailed instructions and all needed hardware for proper installation.

Regular maintenance keeps your air oil separator WRX working well. Most systems need periodic draining of collected oil. This simple maintenance task takes just minutes but prevents separator overflow. Some advanced designs have automatic drain-back systems that eliminate manual maintenance.

Professional installation ensures the best results for complex systems. Many enthusiasts choose professional installation to guarantee proper routing and connections. This investment protects against potential installation errors that could hurt performance.

Performance Benefits and Long-Term Value

The main benefit of Subaru WRX air oil separator installation is engine protection rather than immediate power gains. However, keeping intake air clean does preserve engine efficiency over time. Engines with separators typically maintain better performance as miles add up.

Reducing carbon buildup is the most significant advantage. Direct injection engines especially benefit from preventing oil contamination. The best air oil separator WRX systems can dramatically reduce intake valve deposits over time.

Fuel economy often improves slightly with separator installation. Cleaner intake air allows for more efficient combustion. While gains are modest, they add to overall vehicle efficiency. The long-term engine protection value far exceeds the initial cost.

Protecting resale value is an often-overlooked benefit. Engines with separator protection typically show less internal contamination. This translates to higher resale values and easier sales when upgrading vehicles.
