Aftermarket Trunks & Lids

What is the best carbon fiber trunk lid for a 2015–2021 or 2008–2014 WRX/STI? Aftermarket carbon trunk lids from Seibon and VIS Racing are the go-to answers. Both brands offer direct-fit carbon fiber trunk lids — in OEM-style and C-style finishes — for the 2008–2014 WRX/STI sedan and the 2015–2021 WRX/STI, replacing the heavy factory steel lid with a lightweight carbon piece that transforms the car’s rear stance.

A trunk lid is one of the largest body panels on the car: it cuts weight over the rear axle and defines the rear-end look. OEM-style lids replicate the factory shape in carbon weave; C-style lids add an integrated lip for an aggressive edge without a separate spoiler. Confirm sedan fitment (the lids here are sedan-specific), check that the lid reuses factory hinges, latch, and wiring, and plan on adjusting the trunk torsion bars — the lighter lid changes the pop-up behavior.

Seibon is one of the best-known carbon fiber body component brands in the aftermarket, with a reputation built on carbon hoods, trunk lids, and aero for Japanese performance cars. Its catalog runs deep on Subaru applications — including the OEM-style and C-style carbon trunk lids for the 2008–2014 and 2015–2021 WRX/STI carried here — and its lids reuse factory mounting points, keeping installation a bolt-on job.

VIS Racing is a long-standing body panel brand offering carbon fiber and fiberglass-composite hoods, trunk lids, fenders, and body kits across Japanese and domestic platforms. Here it covers the 2015–2021 WRX/STI with carbon trunk options including the SS-style lid plus a carbon trunk trim garnish for owners who want the carbon look in a smaller dose — a useful second source when comparing weaves, styles, and pricing against Seibon on the same car.

Carbon panels work best as a matched set. Pair a trunk lid with carbon fiber hoods and the rest of the exterior trim, starting from the general trunk collection. Two standouts: the Seibon [15-21 WRX/STI] C-Style Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid and the Seibon [08-14 WRX/STI Sedan] OEM-Style Carbon Fiber Trunk Lid. Will a carbon trunk lid fit my WRX?

Match the listing to your exact generation and body style. The lids in this collection are sedan-specific — 2008–2014 WRX/STI sedan and 2015–2021 WRX/STI — and don’t fit hatchback or wagon variants. Check your year and model against the fitment line in the product title.

Is a carbon fiber trunk actually lighter than stock?

Yes — a carbon lid weighs notably less than the factory steel lid. The lighter lid changes how the trunk springs behave, so expect to adjust or swap the torsion bars to keep the trunk opening and staying open properly.

Do I need to paint a carbon fiber trunk lid?

Usually not. Carbon lids ship in gloss clear-coated weave meant to be displayed as-is — the weave is the point. Some owners paint-match for a sleeper look; confirm the finish in the product listing either way.

How hard is the install?

It’s bolt-on: the lid mounts to the factory hinges and reuses the latch and wiring. The fiddly part is alignment — trunk-lid panel gaps are very visible — so many owners have a body shop handle final fitment.
