1990-1997 Mazda Miata (NA) Parts

The best parts for a 1990-1997 Mazda Miata (NA) are the classics owners have sworn by for decades: a coilover set like BC Racing's BR series to modernize the handling, a Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust, and an ACT or Clutch Masters clutch kit. With most NAs over 30 years old, maintenance-grade upgrades — Gates timing components, fresh brake kits — matter as much as performance parts. Make it healthy first, then make it fast.

The first-generation Miata (NA) is the car that revived the affordable roadster: pop-up headlights, near-perfect balance, and a rev-happy 1.6L (1990-1993) or 1.8L (1994-1997) four-cylinder. It is one of the best-supported enthusiast platforms on earth, with deep aftermarket coverage for restoration, street, autocross, and track.

Because these cars are aging, inspect wear items before chasing power: timing belt, water pump, hoses, and bushings. Many driveline parts span 1990-2005 since the NA and NB share hardware, but 1.6L and 1.8L parts are not always interchangeable — confirm your exact year and engine before ordering.

Popular brands for the NA include Borla for exhausts, ACT for clutches, BC Racing for coilovers, and Mishimoto for cooling.

Should I replace the timing belt on my NA Miata?

If the service history is unknown, yes — the Gates racing timing components we carry cover 1989-2005 cars. Replace the water pump at the same time.

Do I need a tune with a cat-back exhaust?

No. A cat-back like the Borla S-Type bolts on behind the catalytic converter and needs no ECU changes — one of the simplest first mods for an NA.

Is a 6-puck clutch too aggressive for the street?

Puck-style clutches like the ACT HD/Race 6-pad engage more abruptly than a full-face disc — great for track, grabby in traffic. Be honest about your use case before choosing.

Will 1989-2005 coilovers fit my 1990 NA?

The BC Racing BR kit we carry is listed for 1989-2005, which covers the full NA run — but always double-check your exact year on the product page.
