The best Ignition Projects parts for a Subaru are its coil packs: Multi-Spark and Quad Spark sets listed for WRX and WRX STI models from 2004-2010, a Quad Spark set for the 2015-2019 STI, and Quad Spark sets for the 2013-2020 BRZ, FR-S, and 86. Every product here is a coil pack set for a Subaru-built car, so the choice comes down to your model and year. If your turbo Subaru misfires under boost or your coils are original and old, these are the sets to compare.
Coil packs sit on top of the spark plugs and turn battery voltage into the high-voltage spark that lights the air-fuel mixture, one coil per cylinder on these cars. When a coil weakens, symptoms include a misfire under load, hesitation when boost builds, or a rough idle — often only at wide-open throttle. Fresh plugs are the cheaper first step for any misfire, but plugs cannot fix a coil that is breaking down, and on higher-mileage turbo cars coils become a maintenance item.
Ignition Projects is a single-purpose brand here: coil packs, and nothing else. Its two lines are named Multi-Spark and Quad Spark, split by application — Multi-Spark packs for Subaru models including 2004-2010 WRX and WRX STI and 2005-2009 Legacy GT, Quad Spark packs for the 2004-2010 STI, the 2015-2019 STI, and BRZ, FR-S, and 86 cars covering 2013-2014 and 2015-2020. That narrow, Subaru-only focus is the appeal: sets built around the flat-four applications JDMuscle customers drive, not a universal catalog.
NGK is the spark plug specialist whose plugs most of these coil packs will fire. Its iridium plugs are the default pairing for Subaru turbo engines, and replacing plugs alongside coils makes sense because both parts come out together on many of these cars.
Denso is the other ignition name to know, a major original-equipment supplier whose plugs and ignition parts are the factory-style baseline owners compare upgrades against. Mishimoto, best known for cooling, also builds direct-fit ignition coil sets for Subaru applications. Do upgraded coil packs require a tune?
Coil packs are replacement hardware, not a calibration change, so a like-for-like swap does not by itself call for a retune. If your car is tuned and misfiring, tell your tuner what you changed.
Should I replace all four coil packs at once?
These packs are sold as sets, and replacing the full set keeps spark strength even across cylinders. On a higher-mileage car, one failed coil usually means the others are the same age, so a complete set is the practical fix.
Which set fits my car?
Match the listing to your model and years exactly: the ranges here separate 2004-2010 WRX and STI cars, 2005-2009 Legacy GT, 2015-2019 STI, and BRZ, FR-S, and 86 cars split at 2014 and 2015.
Will new coil packs fix my misfire?
They fix misfires caused by weak or failing coils, common on older turbo cars under boost. Misfires can also come from worn plugs or fueling issues, so if fresh plugs and coils do not cure it, the car needs diagnosis.
