2015-2017 WRX STI Brake Pads

Brake pads are the highest-value brake upgrade for a 2015-2017 WRX STI — more stopping improvement per dollar than rotors, lines, or fluid, because the pad compound defines friction, temperature range, and pedal feel. The right pad depends entirely on how the car is driven.

Match the compound to your use. Ceramic pads are quiet, low-dust, and easy on rotors — ideal for daily drivers. Semi-metallic (street performance) pads trade some dust and noise for higher temperature tolerance and stronger bite. Track compounds handle extreme heat but are noisy, dusty, and chew rotors on the street; they also need heat to work, so cold stopping suffers.

Front versus rear is not interchangeable — the WRX STI runs different pad shapes per axle, and brake bias is tuned around the factory friction split. Changing only the front compound alters balance, so consider matched axle sets. Bedding new pads properly (a series of controlled stops per the manufacturer's procedure) is not optional; it determines both performance and rotor life.

Check pad wear sensors and hardware compatibility with your calipers. Filter this collection by pad material and front/rear position for your 2015-2017 WRX STI.

One more practical note: pads and rotors wear as a system. If your rotors are scored, heat-spotted, or near minimum thickness, replace them with the pads — new pads on worn rotors never bed correctly and you will be doing the job twice. Keep a spare set of street pads if you swap to track compounds for events; driving to the track on race pads is miserable and unsafe in traffic.
