Leading Performance With The 2015-2020 WRX & STI Invidia Downpipes

From your engine to the interior, and from the front grill to the tailpipe, there are hundreds of ways to squeeze more performance out of your WRX. Installing a WRX Downpipe is just one of many ways to do this, but an important one. A downpipe does many important things for your vehicle, from helping your exhaust system to be more efficient to cleaning your emissions.

What is a Downpipe & What Does it Do?

A downpipe moves gasses from your engine through the exhaust system. In most cases, it can be found between the resonator and exhaust manifold. Some contain a catalytic converter that reduces smog emissions, and some do not. In fact, most stock downpipes do contain a catalytic converter in order to allow the vehicle to pass a smog inspection and be declared street legal.

This component is bolted to the turbine housing directly. When they contain a catalytic converter, they do an excellent job of cleaning up your exhaust fumes. However, they can also sap a great deal of energy out of the system, reducing speed and performance.

Why Install a WRX Downpipe?

If you are a fan of WRX performance and all the improvements advanced part replacements can bring, then a WRX downpipe from JDMuscle might be for you.

A typical aftermarket downpipe will have a larger diameter. It will also incorporate a high-flow catalytic converter or no catalytic converter at all. Either way, this will reduce the restriction on the available power that ordinary OEM downpipes impose.

An ordinary downpipe represents a choke point or a bottleneck where your engine's output is reduced. Performance downpipes reduce or eliminate this choke point. That means you will enjoy better performance and more power by installing an aftermarket WRX downpipe.

What is "Cat VS Catless?"

There are two types of aftermarket downpipes. They are those with a catalytic converter and those without one. A downpipe with a catalytic converter may meet legal emissions standards, but not always. A vehicle with a "catless" downpipe will almost never pass an emissions test.

Are Downpipes Street Legal?

Usually, catless downpipes are not street-legal. You will need to check with your local state and regional authorities to find out if you can pass emissions testing without a catalytic converter. But in the vast majority of cases, your vehicle will not pass without one.

A good WRX downpipe will unleash restricted power on your turbocharged WRX in a way that nothing else does. To learn more about this innovative component and more, get in touch with us at JDMuscle today.
